Description

Construction Tour of American Geophysical Union Net Zero Renovation

As construction on the American Geophysical Union’s (AGU) headquarters building in downtown Washington DC nears completion in late spring 2018, AGU and the project team would like to invite George Mason students and guests for a hard hat tour of the building on Tuesday, May 15, 2018 before doors open to the public.

The $41.7 million project is a complete renovation of AGU's 62,000-square-foot headquarters building, located in the Dupont Circle neighborhood. AGU is aspiring to be the first organization in the District of Columbia to renovate an existing commercial building to achieve net zero goals. A building reaches net zero when it realizes an annual balance between energy demand and the creation of energy on-site achieved through a variety of architectural, engineering, and advanced technology methods which reduce, reclaim, absorb, or generate energy or water.

The tour will give an inside look at the construction process and also allow you to hear about design features included in the building that are key to energy recovery in the pursuit of AGU’s net zero energy goal from project partners themselves.

Hard hat tours are capped at 20 attendees.
